Human Trafficking 101

This full-day training, offered by NC Coalition Against Sexual Assault's Anti-Human Trafficking Specialist, will be a detailed introduction to human trafficking for professionals working with youth. The training will begin with a Human Trafficking 101 that addresses both sex and labor trafficking of youth as well as an overview of the prevention and outreach efforts currently happening in North Carolina. Attendees will learn common red flags that a youth is being trafficked for either sex or labor and how NC's "Safe Harbor" laws allow for expanded protections for minors being trafficked for sex. This training will also include an introduction to the most common targeted prevention approaches and curricula, the broader social-ecological prevention lens, and how to support youth who have been trafficked toward recovery.

Learning objectives- By the end of this training, participants will:

1) Be able to define human trafficking and list common vulnerabilities.

2) Know at least 6 "red flags" that a youth might be in a trafficking situation.

3) Identify several targeted prevention program approaches and the broader prevention context.

4) Have developed strategies for working with trafficked youth in trauma-informed, survivor-centered ways.
